M+ celebrates cinema programme Tsui Hark, the Free-Spirited Trailblazer with the Hong Kong premiere of Shanghai Blues 2024 (4K Restoration)

Located in the West Kowloon Cultural District, Asia's global museum of contemporary visual culture, M+ Cinema, the director's special exhibition "Tsui Hark: Pioneer of Unlimited Vision" kicked off and held the premiere of "Shanghai Nights 2024 (4K Restored Edition)", which was originally released in 1984 A romantic comedy produced in 2006. The opening event at the M+ Cinema that night also celebrated the 40th anniversary of "Film Studio". Guests at the premiere included "Film Studio" co-founder director Tsui Hark and producer Shi Nansheng, "Shanghai Night 2024 (4K restored version)" 》Main actors Sylvia Chang, Chung Chun-tao and Ye Cui-wen, West Kowloon Cultural District Authority and M+ representatives, as well as famous entertainers, including Chen Guo, Zhang Wanting, Wen Nianzhong, Xu Anhua, Lin Zixiang, Liu Tianlan, Lu Guanting, Wu Siyuan, Teddy Robin, Sum Jianxun, Du Dewei, Wen Jun, Qiu Shuzhen, Er Dongsheng and Yu Anan also attended the evening event.
This autumn special program aims to pay tribute to Tsui Hark. M+ Cinema will screen twelve of Tsui Hark's masterpieces from November to December. Tsui Hark will also have an in-depth conversation with director and actor Sylvia Chang on November 9, 2024 (Saturday), exploring his colorful film career from Hong Kong New Wave to "movie studios", from Hollywood to co-productions. As one of the most influential directors in the Hong Kong film industry, Tsui Hark has recreated classics, created new trends, and brought local movie stars to the forefront of popular culture. The director’s special exhibition will screen Tsui Hark’s masterpieces, Including "Butterfly Change" (1979), "New Shushan Swordsman" (1983), "The Swordsman" (1990), "Once Upon a Time in Heaven" (1991), "Butterfly Lovers" (1994), "The Sword" (1995), " Xiao Qian" (1997), "With the Current and Against the Current" (2000), "Seven Swords" (2005), "Di Renjie: The Tongtian Empire" (2010) and "Taking Tiger Mountain by Wisdom" (2014). In order to thank the audience for their support, Tsui Hark will hold a post-screening lecture for "The Knife" (1995) with filmmaker Wen Jun on November 9, 2024, as well as a pre-screening tour for "Xiao Qian" (1997).
In conjunction with this special program, "The Golden Sword" (1978) will be screened for free at the M+ Multimedia Center until January 26, 2025 (Sunday). This is the first re-screening of the work since 1999. This short TV series is Tsui Hark's first attempt in the martial arts genre. The six-episode plot combines suspense, horror, romance and other elements, and is intricately intertwined with charming lighting effects and montage techniques, which is refreshing to the audience.
